Liza Šparovec started playing cello in the early age of four. She was a cellist for 15 years and succeeded in many national and international competitions. From years 2007 – 2009 she was a member of Central European Initiative Youth Orchestra. She took part in many important chamber music concerts. As a soloist she performed in a concert with Slovene Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra.

In 2009 she entered the Conservatory for Musik and Ballet in Ljubljana where she started her singing studies. Already in the first year she attended a national music competition (TEMSIG) where she won the gold medal. She took part in recording a CD with songs by famous Slovenian composer Marijan Lipovšek for Slovenian Radio. In 2011 she had a successful recital together with her brother, clarinetist Blaž Šparovec. In March 2012 she took part at International singing competition Bruna Špiler and won the 1. prize.

From October 2012 on she was enrolled at University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, where she studied in the class of Annemarie Zeller. During her studies in Graz she performed the role of Belinda in a concert production of the opera Dido and Aeneas. In 2014 she had her debut as Zerlina in Mozarts Don Giovanni. During her bachelor studies Liza performed as a soloist in Vivaldi’s Gloria, Rossini’s Petite messe solennelle and Mendelssohn’s Psalm 42. In the year of 2016 she frequently performed Pergolessi’s Stabat Mater. In June 2016 Liza finished her bachelor studies in Graz with honors. In the year of 2016 she was a scholarship holder of Walter-Kaminsky Foundation.

Liza continued her master studies at Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln in the class of Brigitte Lindner. In her first year of postgraduate studies in Cologne, she put Lied (art song) to the foreground and in collaboration with renowned pianist and professor Stefan Irmer, gained a wealth of knowledge and repertoire in the field of German and French art song. In Aachen (Germany) she performed the works of Francis Poulenc and J. Brahms at ”Liednacht”. In January 2018, Liza performed some of Brahms’s most successful soprano songs at a concert as part of a festival dedicated to Johannes Brahms.

Liza worked with some world renowned singers and conductors such as Lucio Gallo, Cheryl Studer, Helen Donath, Sabina Cvilak, Gerd Uecker, Klaus Donath, … She collaborated with Kammersängerin Bernarda Fink and her brother, bass-baritone Marcos Fink. From 2013 on she frequently collaborates with the Chamber orchestra Amadeo at concerts in Slovenia and Germany.

In the Saison 2017/18 she performed in the title role of the opera The cunning little vixen from Leoš Janáček at Theater Aachen. With the role Liza earned her master’s degree with the best grade. In January 2019, she officially completed her postgraduate studies in opera singing at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln. While studying abroad, she was a scholarship holder of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia.

She was one of the ten finalists at the International Singing Competition Gabriela Benačkova, which took place in October 2019 in Czech Republic. She was awarded with a special prize of Gabriela Benačkova.

In December 2019 Liza received an award by Municipality of Radovljica. Sadly in the year of 2020 most of the projects were cancelled due to the covid pandemic. In August she sang the role of Susanna in a concert version of The Marriage of Figaro by W. A. Mozart under the baton of George Pehlivanian. She also performed a concert of Slovenian and Argentinian songs with baritone Ivan Andres Arnšek.

Liza works as an opera and a concert singer in Slovenia and abroad.
